The Synapse Residencies place Australian artists into science and research settings to pursue collaborative projects with benefits accruing to both the resident and the host organisation. 2007/08 was the third year of the project and the first year that artists were placed within organisations outside of Australia.
Synapse ARC Linkage project 2006

Fish-Bird is the result of a three-year Synapse Australian Research Council Linkage grant. The cross-disciplinary project brought together people from four disparate sectors: a media arts researcher/artist, robotics scientists, partners from major arts organisations and a high-technology business. The collaboration resulted in the creation of a major autokinetic robotic artwork that set the benchmark for what such artwork can be.
