RiAus  is an organisation dedicated to ‘bringing science to people and people to science’.  We currently are housing several art installations of new media works with a scientific theme - and throughout November and December we’re having a few late night art openings, where people can come in for a drink at the bar, a look at the art and listen to the artists talking about their work.

Electromagnetic Compostion for Building, Plants and Stars (Adelaide Array - 2009)  - David Haines and Joyce Hinterding

20 November 2009 - 6 - 9 pm at The Science Exchange - FREE

Artists David Haines and Joyce Hinterding talk about their installation of sculptural and sonic beauty- Electromagnetic Composition for Building, Plants and Stars - which is composed with the building itself and brings resonance into being with a length of copper wire wrapped around columns in the RiAus Future Space. This 'antenna' picks up low frequency radiation from within the building, from around the city and from outer space - the electromagnetic crackle of the stars - and merges this with audio recordings and luminous video projections of the artists' urban explorations, revealing the hidden shimmer and wonder of everyday places.

The Heart Library Project - George Poonkhin Khut

11 December 2009 - 6 - 9 pm at The Science Exchange - FREE

Building on the notion of gallery as public research library, George Khut is interested in body-focussed interactive Art.  The Heart library project - one of the RiAus' inaugural art installations - allows audiences to interact with a ceiling mounted video reflection of themselves and learn to influence the appearance of the projected image by invoking stressful/exciting or peaceful/relaxing nervous states to influence their heart rate patterning.  The event will also include a performance of Heartsong; a music, audio visual and performance project created in consultation with staff, patients and their carers on the Cardiology Care Unit at Flinders Medical Centre.

After this, we'll bring together the artists, writers, composers and film artists involved in both projects for a to discuss whatever their hearts' desire.
