Arts Access Victoria and the Yarra City Council invite you to A Future Presence, a forum with renowned UK artists Ju Gosling and Julie Newman.
In the UK, many disabled artists identify with a compelling 'disability arts movement', which has weighty political arguments on issues of self-determination for people with disabilities.
Make it a Practice - Being a Disabled Artist / Activist
Ju Gosling (aka ju90) is a UK disabled webmaster and multimedia storyteller who works mainly with digital lens-based media, but also with performance, text and sound. Ju will talk about the relevance of her contemporary visual art practice to wider social and political debates, such as those concerning gender, sexuality and disability rights.
A Real Place in Culture - Disability Arts and Activism
Julie Newman has been Acting Chair of the UK Disabled People's Council for the past two years. She is also an artist and documenter, specialising in film and photography. Julie speaks about why she is passionate about the importance of archiving and documentation, and why she believes in the importance of archiving and documentation, and why she believes in the importance of the recognition of Disability Arts within the Disability Rights movement as a whole.
The forum will be folloewd by high tea with the artists.
