Synapse CSIRO Residencies – Call for Applications
The Australian Network for Art & Technology (ANAT) and CSIRO Manufacturing are calling for applications for the Synapse CSIRO Artists’ Residency program.
The residencies are open to Victorian-based artists working in any discipline and/or medium. Residencies shall take place over 12 weeks full-time (or part-time equivalent) at the CSIRO’s Clayton facilities during the 2017 calendar year.
The project partners have identified three research areas that we believe have the right mix of compelling science and researchers committed to working with the artists and providing the necessary level of support. The three are:
- Metal organic framework materials
Metal organic framework materials are an advanced structure that is extremely ordered, porous and customisable. They grow in a crystal form and are extremely flexible, especially when combined with nanoparticles for additional functionality or attributes.

- 3D printed structures
CSIRO’s Lab 22 provides access to metal additive manufacturing (3D printing) technologies that promise high efficiency and productivity gains.

- Polymer coatings for cell adhesion
CSIRO has developed an innovative new coating that could be used to improve medical devices and implants, thanks to the ‘primordial goo’ that is thought to be have been home to the building blocks of life.

This CSIRO blog contains an animation about ‘primordial goo’.
Application Guidelines, including an application cover sheet, can be downloaded here.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS 5PM (CST), MONDAY 3rd of April 2017
