Call for Applications Open

ANAT is calling for applications to the 2027 ANAT Synapse residency program.  We welcome submissions from Australian artists who work in any genre with a focus on concepts that intersect and deeply engage with science and/or technology. 

The program supports artists-in-residence hosted by Australian research organisations to work together to undertake a period of creative research and practice. The program brings art and science together in partnerships that generate new knowledge, ideas and processes beneficial beyond both fields.

Artists are encouraged and supported in collaborative experimentation rather than anticipating or producing specific outcomes.

Residency
There is one residency on offer in 2027. The successful artist will undertake the residency across 16 weeks full time (or the part-time equivalent) between February and October 2027.

The program is suited to artists with a self-disciplined and focused creative working process as the residencies will be largely self-guided. 

Artist Fee and In-kind Support
ANAT will provide the successful artist a fee plus superannuation, paid in regular installments across the term of the residency. We will also contribute toward other project expenses, if required. 

ANAT will announce and share the residency across our networks, including the promotion of an artist’s online creative journal.

The host organisation will provide the artist-in-residence in-kind access to staff expertise, space, equipment and resources, as agreed prior via the application budget.
